Our math guest speaker did a fantastic job speaking with the our students about math and how it is used in everyday situations, especially in particular careers such as construction, engineering, etc. Mr. Davenport, father to our own SMS math teacher Laura Hayes, did a fantastic job incorporating tips and shortcuts that can be used in math class and in the future as well.

I know my math students were prepared for the CRCT. I am very proud of how hard everyone has worked this year. Let me know what you thought about the CRCT.

Our classes are finding the surface area of rectangular prisms. They are working in groups to find the surface area of several geometric solids while finding real life application for the GPS.

The "big" test is fast upon us. Give me some feed back on what you think about the CRCT and if you think it is an effective tool for student achievement and learning.

The class has been "decorating" their fantasy bedroom and finding the area and perimeter to figure costs for flooring and wallcovering. The students have searched online stores to find prices and have to meet a $3,000 budget. Everyone did a great job and worked hard!

  • Last week in Mrs. Hughes' class

Last week was a lot of fun as the class revisited how to find perimeter. We also worked hard while enjoying a little fun with "Musical Math." Our next step for the 6th grade standard will be to find the area as well. Stay posted for more updates.
