  • Halstead Earns 1st in County Spelling Bee

The 2021 Chattooga Spelling Bee for grades 4-8 commenced this morning. Rather than having an in-person contest, students stayed at their home schools and competed virtually. Our school representatives were Aavon Wooten and Logan Lewis in 6th grade, Dra'Nihjaa Kennedy in 7th, and Brandon Floyd and Reese Halstead in 8th. We are THRILLED to announce that Reese Halstead took 1st Place and Brandon Floyd finished 3rd. Reese will move on to represent our school system at the regional competition in February. Congratulations on a job well done!

  • Clarification on Meal Services

All meal pickup is changing to Mondays, effective September 14th. Pre-orders are no longer necessary. The pre-order form has been turned off because we are able to provide all students a meal free of charge. Pickup will be from 12-1 at each school location. Students who are 5-day virtual learners will get 5 days of meals when they pick up and 1-day virtual learners will get 1 day of meals when they pick up. There will be a sign at the school directing parents to the pickup spot and a number to call when they arrive so we can bring it out. We are also offering delivery beginning Monday, September 14 to all students. 5-day virtual students will receive a week's worth of meals when we deliver, and 1-day virtual students will get one day of meals when we deliver. This is all free of charge while funds are available. All students eat free, while funds are available, whether they are in-house students or virtual learners.

  • Teacher of the Year

Congratualtions to Ms. Debra Osborne on being named SMS Teacher of the Year. Over the years, her guidance, work ethic, and commitment have made such a positive contribution to our students, school, and system. Whether it is 7:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m. she never fails to smile and give an encouraging word. You may find her organizing a roleplay with Georgia colonists, hosting talent show auditions, or traveling our great state with a busload of 8th graders, and you can be certain when you do that Ms. Osborne is always setting an example to follow. CONGRATULATIONS!
